Harisiddhi Village Project – Earthquake Relief Home

After sudden devastating earthquake in Nepal, we started to survey the most affected and most measurable places where immediate helping hand should apply.  In this context, the friendship of Mr. Moghadam from Monaco and Mr. Shakya from Nepal headed to initiate the very first project of HDF “Earthquake Relief Home – Harisiddhi Project” at Harisiddhi Village Development Committee (VDC), ward no. 4, Lalitpur. the eagerness of Mr. Moghadam to lend a hand of support for the suffering Nepalese people had encouraged Mr. Shakya to take initiation for the Relief Home Project. In the meantime, Mr. Konstantin Yanev, the Chairman of Shibuya Productions in Monaco joined hands with Mr. Moghadam in sponsoring the Relief Home Project. This way the project was designed and implemented based on the prime need of the Harisiddhi village.

The historical city of Lalitpur is one of the 15 districts most affected by the earthquake. And engineer started to set plan in identified project place where this plan covers 5,696 square meters the homes construction area in the public land and total of 24 rooms in 6 units sketch has been prepared for most needy earthquake victims living in Harisiddhi Village.

Conditions we have found are much more risky and heart rending which was beyond our thoughts. Some major statements of the problems are as follows:

• Measurable conditions in daily life even no places and stuffs they had
  for eating and sleeping.
• Ruined health problem due to sanitation and clean water problem.
• Lack of awareness while facing such natural disaster.

The objective of the project is to support and encourage the earthquake victims. And further, our future plan was to develop these homes into halls where community beneficial activities will take place after the victims have shift to their own home. Finally, we have applied an action to meet objectives. The major primary objectives of this “Earthquake Relief Home – Harisiddhi Project” are as follows:

• To provide cooking and sleeping places to victims of earthquake for at least protecting them from undesired casualties which may occur at anytime due to continuous after-shock.
• To revive them from worsen mental and physical insecurities.
• Last but very essential objectives was to support the victims and get back them into normal life.

For achieving these very primary objectives, we have made small temporary hut/dome where at least their life comes to be stable for staying, cooking, eating and sleeping. And this really worked a lot to save them from poor health due to polluted environment after damaging here and there by major earthquake,  raining, heat, cold season and mosquitoes biting problem.

Total of 24 rooms were constructed in 6 units for most needy earthquake victims living in Harisiddhi Village. These homes were made of iron structure equipped with solar system for light and toilet facilities. Together with this, all the rooms were furnished with safeguard the beneficiaries from hot and cold weathers as well as carpet on the floor. All the homes were constructed in the public land covering 5,696 square meters.

The significant outcome of the project was the completion of the construction for 96 people from 16 displaced families were living happily with relief in the temporary homes, as they were equipped with basic needs like facility of solar light, drinking water, toilets and shower. So that, victims has no longer needed to get soaked in the rains and could stay safe during both the winter and the summer.

After completion of the shelters, HDF organized an inauguration program, which was attended by 200 local people. The mass gathered in the program with excitement and appreciation which was the sign of success of HDF’s initiation towards supporting post-earthquake relief program funded by Monaco. They expressed their sincere gratitude for helping them from hell to heaven. The voice of victims is like this:

“We were living in normal life by birth, but our condition became most terrible after this devastating natural disaster. We were forced to live in the miserable situation. We thought our life is going to be finished in this way. And now we are feeling here heavenly peace and happy. HDF presence become as a light in a dark.
After earthquake, we were here in much serious condition like a fish shivering without water. Friends of Monaco provided us through HDF heavenly pleasant homes and made our heart delightful. So, we consider you all as a God. So we appreciate and pray for their happiness too. We think you all are the real God for us who appeared in the time of grief.
People who visit and observe this home, they say what a beautiful home you people have got! We are so excited and very happy to share it with you all.”

All the villagers are extremely satisfied and happy from our selection with right people at right place. Because selected victims really had no any chances to rebuild their homes ever in their life time due to poverty.
