AN EARTHQUAKE

THAT DEVASTED AN ENTIRE COUNTRY

This major earthquake in 2015 killed nearly 8,800 people and injured nearly 22,000. Its epicenter was east of Gorkha District at Barpak, Gorkha, and its hypocenter was at a depth of approximately 8.2 km. The earthquake triggered an avalanche on Mount Everest. Hundreds of thousands of Nepalese were made homeless with entire villages flattened, across many districts of the country, world heritage historical monuments, Centuries old buildings, temples were destroyed. The pain of losing family members and the problem of homes and food had worsened the situation of Nepal and Nepalese.

Himalaya Dāna Foundation (HDF), a nonprofit organization, was founded with the goal of helping Nepalese people in need, initially started for the earthquake victims. With the great willingness of Mr. Alexander Moghadam, Honorary Consul of Nepal to Monaco, officially extend the help to the Nepalese people from the Principality of Monaco which resulted in the establishment of the HDF. His sacred energy to lend a hand of support for the suffering Nepalese people had encouraged his friend in Nepal Mr. Surendra Shakya, Chairman of Himalaya Network, Sui-Ren Travels Pvt. Ltd. to join hands for the humanitarian works.
